Our content creation series has been pretty theory-heavy thus far. Not that there’s anything wrong with that ;). But in an effort to make our ideas more concrete, we developed out a working list of 601 potential linker-valued audiences for your content. A linker-valued audience is just that – an audience of people who are valued, served and even cherished by linkers.
While our list is certainly not complete, we think it’s a great resource for content brainstorming and a stellar visual aid to accompany all the theory we’ve been churning out on linkable content creation. What We’re Talking About When We Talk About ‘Audience’
You’ll see that we stayed away from sales-oriented audiences and toward academic topics and potential pain areas (safety, finances, health, parenting, etc). The topics for which we chose to brainstorm audiences are those we know resource curators (links page linkers), not just bloggers, tend to serve. Topics we thought were relevant to linkers, but that could also be sales-oriented (such as travel & cars) are marked with an asterisk; these topic areas are usually only relevant to linkers when combined with another topic.
You may notice that most audiences served by resource curators (not necessarily bloggers/journalists etc…) fall into one of two categories:
- a person in need, or a person who cares for a person in need
- a person seeking out information
How To Use This List
This list is for people who have brainstormed topics from their SEO keywords and are ready to find linker-valued audiences to write for.
Not every audience will resonate with every company. This list isn’t intended to be a grab bag; instead, it’s meant as a brainstorm igniter. The process we used to create this list can be applied to finding many more audiences, and we hope you’ll use it to add to our list. How We Developed This List:
We created a list of linkable topic areas and listed every way to intersect audience with that topic. We called these intersections “logical associations.” The full list is below, and each topic’s unique list of logical associations can be found on the 2nd spreadsheet inside our Audiences List Spreadsheet.
We then used mergewords to combine our “logical audience associations” + topic + topic and brainstormed from there. In the end, while processes like mergewords and logical associations helped us scale our audience options, human eyes were still needed to understand which audiences actually exist in our culture.
